Ozempic mimics the GLP-1 hormone, which increases insulin production, decreases glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying, helping to control blood sugar levels.
Ozempic is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection, which can be taken at any time of day, with or without meals.
Individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 should not use Ozempic.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation.
While Ozempic is primarily prescribed for type 2 diabetes management, some individuals may experience weight loss as a secondary effect. However, it is not FDA-approved for weight loss.
Before first use, store Ozempic in the refrigerator. After first use, it can be stored at room temperature (59°F to 86°F) or in the refrigerator for up to 56 days.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose on your regular schedule.
Ozempic can be used with other diabetes medications, but it’s important to discuss all your current medications with your healthcare provider to avoid potential interactions.
It is not known if Ozempic will harm your unborn baby or pass into your breast milk. You should stop using Ozempic at least 2 months before you plan to become pregnant.
Coverage for Ozempic varies depending on your insurance plan. It’s advisable to check with your insurance provider to determine your out-of-pocket costs.
